Webster, N.Y. – Feb. 22, 2015 – The CDS Wolf Foundation is hosting its 9th annual Strikes for Abilities Bowling Party on Sunday, March 6th from 1pm to 4pm at Clover Lanes at 2750 Monroe Ave, Rochester, NY. The event is presented by Flaherty Salmin CPAs and Gallo & Iacovangelo, Attorneys at Law. This community-wide bowling party helps to raise funds needed for year-round recreation, health, wellness, and socialization activities, as well as emergency assistance for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities assisted by CDS Monarch. Many of CDS Monarch’s recreational services, for example, the CDS Monarch Special Olympics team are made possible by this event.
“The CDS Wolf Foundation raises money through this event to allow CDS Monarch to support people to participate in health and wellness activities and live an active lifestyle in their community,” CDS Life Transitions President/CEO Sankar Sewnauth said. “The Strikes for Abilities Bowling Party is a fun way for us to bring the community together in support of these individuals, and the activities and services we provide for them.” CDS Monarch has the largest Special Olympics team in Monroe County, and the Strikes for Abilities Bowling Party provides the funding needed to support the team each year.
The money raised will go towards new equipment purchases, uniforms, transportation and other necessities for the team, as well as helping to grow other recreational services and activities that CDS Monarch offers outside of Special Olympics. “My brother Chuckie is just one of many who looks forward to, and benefits from, the health, wellness and recreational activities that the CDS Wolf Foundation supports at CDS Monarch,” said Margie Dell, Volunteer Committee Chair for the event. “I see firsthand how vitally necessary these activities are to his well-being and growth, both individually and socially. I am grateful for the community’s generous support of the annual Strikes for Abilities event, so that people like my brother Chuckie, are able to have these meaningful experiences.”
This year, funds raised at Strikes for Abilities will also benefit CDS Monarch's Families in Need fund, which assists families with expenses for basic necessities to ensure adequate care for an individual with a disability. This fund relies entirely on donations from members of the community, and fundraisers, including Strikes for Abilities, to replenish the fund.
Registration is open to the public. Participants are invited to bowl by themselves or with a team of up to five people. Registration includes two games, shoe rental, food and soda. There will also be a variety of raffles, including a chance for every bowler who raises at least $250 to win a brand new Trek 7.0FX hybrid bike courtesy of Towpath Bike Shop. Interested bowlers and/or sponsors can find more information, including how to register, online at www.cdswolffoundation.org/events or call (585) 347-1205.
